Job Title: Project Manager: Great Lakes Bioneers Conference Coordinator
SEEDS, an ecologically focused non-profit research, design and educational institution is seeking a project manager for the Great Lakes Bioneers Conference. This annual conference brings together over 500 people who meet, learn, and network at the rich crossroads of the ecology and social justice movements. This Project Manager will work directly with the Executive Director. The primary job focus will be on 2008 conference coordination and will include supporting other existing SEEDS projects. We are looking for a self-motivated, well organized, flexible and engaging person living in the Traverse City region. A passion for potlucks is advised.
Job Description:
This will be an hourly position, and the employee will be eligible for the modest yet creative benefits package all SEEDS employees receive including flexible scheduling. This position will average 20 – 30 hours per week throughout the year; the number of hours and other project opportunities are somewhat flexible depending on applicant’s interests and capacity. That said it needs to be understood that the number of hours dedicated to the conference will gradually increase through the summer and then surge until the conference itself, October 17-19. Further, many of these hours will be at meetings and events during evenings and weekends.
The hourly base rate is dependent on experience and will be in the range of $12-$15/hour. View of the bay is half the pay? Fundraising experience and passion is a plus!

The Wisconsin Association of Lakes (WAL), a non-profit organization focused on working for clean, safe, healthy lakes for everyone, seeks an Executive Director. The position is located in Madison, WI, a vibrant Midwest university community surrounded by beautiful, treasured lakes. The Executive Director will lead and take an active role in the development efforts to secure the financial resources necessary to meet the mission and long-range goals of the organization. This position will also provide administrative and managerial focus to WAL. WAL’s long range goals include: serving as the statewide advocate for lakes, increasing citizen involvement as local advocates for lakes, developing a lake ethic in Wisconsin communities, and supporting science-based lake management decisions.
The Executive Director supervises three experienced staff and works in concert with the WAL Board of Directors, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and UW-Extension Lakes Program (who together comprise the Wisconsin Lakes Partnership) in protecting over 15,000 lakes across Wisconsin. We’re looking for candidates with demonstrated experience in obtaining funds and in working with a governing Board of Directors of a non-profit organization, and significant experience with managing the financial affairs of a non-profit organization.

Major Duties Include: The position provides overall policy guidance related to the administration of the programs developed under the CZMA. This position conducts activities to initiate a Section 312 program evaluation including: establishing a date for the site visit, reviewing previous findings and program progress reports, and conducting web research. The position works with the program office to develop topics and agendas for site visits while arranging any follow-up meetings, provides a site visit summary to OCRM leadership, and develops draft and final findings and recommendations documents. The position supports administration by making recommendations on how to improve the CZMA Section 312 evaluation process and assists with revisions to the CZMA program evaluation "considerations" that serve as guidance for conducting periodic program reviews.

The primary function of the position is to coordinate the communications, website presentation, data analyses, and computer technology for the Lake Erie Center. The Communications Specialist will originate, organize, assemble, disseminate, coordinate, integrate, and present communications, website, brochures, posters, displays, and computer technology at the Lake Erie Center focusing on environmental research, education, and outreach activities. The Communications Specialist will be in charge of computer technology as well as database coordination, development, maintenance, and delivery through web based interfaces. The Communications Specialist will actively interface with other universities, agencies, educators, and environmental groups.
Bachelors degree required, preferred in Biology, Computer Science, or Geography, or related field (possibly English); Master of Science or Master of Arts degree preferred. Candidates must have writing, editing, statistical analysis, communication, and design skills. Experience in website development, presentations, information systems, Geographic Information Systems, statistical data analysis, data base development, and information technology. Candidates must be highly skilled in state-of-the-art GIS, information technology, computer web databases, advanced statistics, imaging, and graphic design. Ability to maintain and design information technology, computer systems, and to supervise and train personnel and students. Background knowledge of Lake Erie, the Great Lakes, and the basics in the fields of ecology, fisheries, geography, biology, and chemistry.
