Sample Great Lakes Direct Mail Postcard

Biodiversity Project worked with three major policy groups and statewide partners to design and distribute nearly 20,000 tri-fold post cards in Wisconsin (click here for larger image of the outside and inside of the postcard). The cards carried basic information about the agreement, details about Wisconsin hearings, and a tear-off postcard to the Governor. More than 5,000 cards were returned. Distribution was handled by individual groups and a bulk mail to the lists of Sierra Club and Clean Wisconsin - among others. Wisconsin Wildlife Federation hand distributed about 5,000 of the cards.

The Postcards in Brief

  • Goals : These more typical environmental action postcards were designed to encourage public participation in the Council of Great Lakes Governors ' Great Lakes Basin Water Resources Compact Agreement hearings and comment period in Wisconsin . The card included information for attending hearings and a tear-off comment card that recipients could mail back to our office.
  • Audiences : Members and mailing lists of major conservation groups in Wisconsin , including Clean Wisconsin, Sierra Club, and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation. Additional cards were sent to members of partner groups and smaller grassroots groups.
  • Distribution : Approximately 13,000 postcards were mailed and 6,000 were hand delivered at meetings and workshops.
  • Outcome : The tri-fold postcard included information about the Annex agreement, dates and details for five public hearings on the agreement, and a tear-off comment card that was delivered to the Governor of Wisconsin . More than 5,000 postcards were returned and attendance at the public hearings exceeded Department of Natural Resources expectations.
